Baby is the size of…wait for it…a durian fruit. In case you are like me and have no clue wtf a durian fruit is, it’s this:

Clears things right up, yes? Little dude is busy keeping his eyes open while awake, and he is starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing. Also more major brain development is going on for Mr. Smarty Pants.

Can we talk about the glorious 3 day weekend? I could not even tell you the last time I had 3 days off of all types of work in a row. I took off Monday because I thought we might go out of town for the weekend, but we ended up staying home in favor of getting things done at the house. For the first time in WI history, it was a beautiful Memorial Day weekend, and we had a good mix of relaxing, enjoying the weather, and getting stuff done. Saturday and Sunday both involved lots of time outside and cooking out with friends. I have discovered my new favorite summer drink.

Starbucks very berry hibiscus refresher. So good, especially when sipped outside in the shade. Turns out I am now a bit sensitive to the sun/heat. One day last week I was sitting out in the sun, and though it wasn’t even particularly hot out, I suddenly felt overheated and went inside only to discover little heat bumps on my arms. Sad. I am hoping I return to my super-hot sun-loving ways as soon as the little guy is on the outside. I have also been getting short of breath really easily, and I feel like baby boy is definitely crowding my diaphragm at this point. He continues to move around quite a bit, and it’s usually huge strong movement that can be viewed from the outside.

As for me, everything I do feels like it takes massive effort, including rolling over in bed, getting up out of a chair, walking up stairs, and especially putting on shoes. Thank goodness it is flip flop season. Surprisingly, working still feels ok. I am trying to sit more when I massage to conserve energy, but for the most part it’s going ok. My hands are another story and are in rough shape after I work between the swelling and soreness. I haven’t been able to wear my wedding rings in a couple of weeks. I am going to start icing them at night to see if that helps. I am always exhausted after I finish working, but what’s new. I just looked and I only have five weeks left of working at the clinic (through June 30th), and after that I will only be working at my own practice until the baby comes (assuming I still can!).

After my swim on Monday (first swim in over a week, oops!), I decided that I must be productive and assemble the crib while Steve was busy grouting tile in the shower. He helped get the huge box into the nursery and we unpacked everything.

After looking through the directions, I was questioning my decision. The diagrams looked really complicated, and I really didn’t know if I would be able to do it by myself. I decided to just start and take my time, and four hours later:

I only needed Steve’s help twice for parts that required two sets of hands. I am pretty impressed with myself, I have to say. I am going to pretend for now that I didn’t just shove all of the crap to the other side of the nursery and that it is all nice and clean and organized. At least progress is being made, right?

So, it is officially freaking me out how fast time is going by now. Seven weeks seems so short, and I can’t believe we are so close to meeting our son. I really can’t wait to see what he looks like and watch him open his eyes to the world for the first time.

A whole day late with the update this week, sorry. Better late than never?

Baby is the size of a squash, over 16 inches long. He is supposed to be in the head down position now, but I honestly can’t tell. He is still moving around a lot, but instead of mostly jabs and kicks, it is a lot of long, slow, strong movements like he is trying his best to stretch out in his cramped quarters. Sometimes it feels like he does a big roll over, which is a crazy sensation, and sometimes it feels like he is pinching and squeezing my insides with his hands. Yowza, kid.

We were in Green Bay over the weekend because Steve was running the marathon on Sunday. It was a beautiful weekend, and I had fun cheering on the runners. Of course it made me miss running and racing, but I know I will be back at it soon.

After being on my feet for most of the day on Sunday, I was exhausted, and after driving home my back was killing me. I woke up on Monday with slight soreness in my quads and promptly felt totally pathetic. I have a feeling I may not be able to walk after my first time back running.

I have been so tired lately. Still. I take naps every chance I get, since I am still stalled out on the nursery. The bathroom is coming along nicely, and I think after progress made during the long weekend coming up we should be able to assemble the crib and really get the room together. I can’t wait. Other progress this week included choosing a pediatrician based on the recommendation of two different friends, so now they can stop asking me every single time I go to the doc if I took care of that yet. I procrastinate, what can I say?

The best moment of the week was our running group throwing us a baby shower.

I planted my butt on the couch while everyone ran, and then we all proceeded to eat Mexican food and pie. It doesn’t get much better than that. We got some adorable gifts and a very generous Target gift card from everyone. Seriously, runners are the best people! I can’t wait to take the little guy to our weekly runs in the stroller after he makes his debut as the newest member of the Lake Country Running Group 🙂

Baby is the size of a pineapple, he is going through major brain and nerve development, and all five senses are in working order.

Speaking of pineapple, oh my gosh it is so good. I can’t stop. I am going to turn into either a pineapple or a watermelon one of these days. Those are still my number one foods at the moment, but blue cheese dressing and potato chips (not together but maybe I should try it) are up there too. And frozen custard, but duh.

I really procrastinated on writing this update because I feel like I have very little to report. It seems like I just wrote my 30 week update yesterday. Time is flying which is now kind of freaking me out since I only have nine weeks to go. The bathroom is still under construction, the nursery is not ready, the house is a mess, etc. But, it was a fabulous weekend in WI, with warm temps and lots of time spent with family celebrating birthdays, an old friend’s baby shower and Mother’s Day. I can’t believe that soon I will be a mom, so weird. It’s kind of like when Steve and I were newly married and it sounded so crazy to me that I was a wife.

The little man is still moving around a lot, although there were two days in a row last week that I couldn’t feel him moving much and I was worried. The first day was last Tuesday, and by that night I actually decided to do a kick count, since you are supposed to be able to feel baby move 10 times within two hours. Well, I got to 10 during one episode of Grey’s Anatomy, but I was still glad that I had an appointment with my OB on Wednesday. I told her what was going on, and she assured me that his heart beat sounded great, but to call if I didn’t feel 10 movements or if I was worried. She also said he may be getting a little cramped in there and it will become progressively harder for him to flip flop all over the place. I guess he must have just been tired from all of the growing for a couple days because now he is back to his usual shenanigans in there.

I am still feeling ok, but I am tired for sure. Despite sleeping for 7.5 hours the last two nights (yes, I still wake up a lot), I crashed when I got home from work for a good 90 mins two days in a row. Business is picking up at my massage practice which is great, but I am still working at another clinic at the same time which is getting difficult. I cut my hours back at that job to just 15 hrs/week, but it is still tough to work a shift there and then see 2 more clients at my office in the same day. But I’ve gotta do what I’ve gotta do and building up my own practice is my main goal right now. I am scheduled at the other clinic through June 30th, but we shall see if I make it that long 🙂

Baby is the size of a… cucumber? Um, ok. That’s just a weird comparison to me so I did a search for a different produce option and found another site that says large cabbage. Cabbage I can get behind. His skin is getting smoother and he is now strong enough to grasp a finger.

So, 30 weeks! I feel like that should mean I am on the home stretch, but in actuality I still have 10 weeks to go. Seems like such a long and a short time from now.  All I want to eat is fruit. I have eaten almost half of a 15lb watermelon by myself in two days. It’s just so good. I am also loving grapes and mozzarella cheese. And bagels with peanut butter. I don’t know if these cravings are pregnancy related or due to the fact that it is finally warming up outside.

Baby boy is still super active. He is either practicing soccer or trying to claw his way out through my stomach, I’m not sure. I love feeling him move around, and if I notice I haven’t felt him in a while, I will press on my belly and he will usually respond. He is probably so annoyed by his mom already.

I am starting to get really uncomfortable when I sleep at night. I wish I could just sleep on my back sometimes, because my hips have started to get sore from side sleeping with all the extra weight. I do use a pillow between my knees and propped under the belly, but it only helps so much. Also, leg cramps. Sweet Jesus, I will wake up in the middle of the night and move my legs, and sometimes my calves will just cramp to high heaven. Fun times. I know the sleeping thing will only get worse as the weeks pass, so it is what it is. In between wake ups to shift sides I am still sleeping pretty well, so I have to be thankful for that.

Progress in the nursery has stalled because we have now started remodeling our bathroom. By “we” I mean Steve and our brother in law Brandon. I am serving as crew supervisor and support staff, taking care of important things like feeding the guys and keeping them on task 🙂 This bathroom is the last room in the house that needed to be completely redone, and we wanted to make sure it is finished before the boy makes his appearance. This was Saturday:

Don’t worry, it looks much better now. The guys made so much progress over the weekend it was kind of incredible. I am just so glad to be rid of the old nasty tub and shower tile. I will do a whole post on the bathroom at some point, likely when it is done and I can show before and afters. One of the things we decided to do was knock back a wall to open up the entry into the bathroom, and on the other side of said wall is the nursery closet. It was unnecessarily deep for a closet, and now it is a normal size. Because of this project, the nursery is now a disaster zone of stuff from the closet and crap from the bathroom. I really hope this project goes fast because it is already driving me nuts that I can’t complete the nursery. The new crib was delivered today and I am so antsy to get it set up. I also ordered the amazing glider/ottoman I talked about a couple weeks ago, and got a great deal on it to boot.

Exercise wise, I swam three times last week. Once was on Sunday, when I was kind of forced into going to the gym if I wanted to take a shower (see bathtub above). It was a good thing, because I am 100% sure I would not have gone to the pool otherwise. Ditto Monday morning. I do not normally workout on Mondays before work, but I got up super early to go to the gym and shower. I thought it would look weird if I went there JUST to shower, so I figured I would get in a short swim to start the week.

Lastly, I had another crazy weird dream last night. I heard the baby crying from his room, so I went in to get him. I took him out of his crib and put him on the changing table, and at some point he was no longer a human baby but a chimpanzee. Like the kind you see people have as pets, and I didn’t have any diapers that would fit on this full sized animal. WTF? I have now dreamed that he is a puppy and a primate. You are a human, right little guy??

Oy vey. Ten weeks to go, and I hope they keep flying by!
