23 weeks

Baby boy is the size of a grapefruit, his face is fully formed, and he is listening to what is going on in the outside world.

I realized when Steve was taking this picture that when I looked down I could no longer see my feet. Ha! I am seriously starting to feel the effects of the extra weight in front in my daily life. I have gained about 20 lbs at this point (maybe a little more by now), and I am finding it takes extra effort to do everything. Get up from a seated/reclined position on the couch? Hard. Putting on shoes? I get a little out of breath. Giving massages? Still doing pretty good there but I have definitely bumped into a few clients on the table with my belly and have to really start thinking about how I am going to do things once I am huge.

I have not run in a couple of weeks now, and while I do miss it, I am surprised by how “ok” I am with not running at the moment. I always pictured myself as one of those pregnant ladies who would happily run all the way to the end and feel good doing it and it would be all puppies and rainbows. People would see me and be all “how does she do it??” Welp, clearly that hasn’t been the case and that’s ok. I may give it another try as it gets nicer outside, but I kind of know that it’s not going to feel good. I have been swimming more and made it to the pool three times last week. Though I’m still not motivated to swim all the time, it actually does feel good while I am doing it so I am going to try to keep it up. I need to get a bigger suit soon though, before everyone at the pool sees a little more of me than they want to.

My back/butt pain has been better, still present but not too bothersome. One of the massage therapists I work with is a former PT, and she determined that the problem is in my SI joint. She did some stretches to try to get it back into place, which worked temporarily. If the problem persists, I may have to give PT or chiropractic a try, but I am hoping it won’t have to come to that.

And the best thing I ate this week:

I used Great Harvest Cinnamon Chip bread to make french toast and then topped it with peanut butter, banana slices, and maple syrup. Oh yes, it was so good that I made it for breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. I also didn’t work out either of those days. Oh well, sometimes a girl’s gotta eat carbs and be lazy.

  1. Your extreme cuteness continues! That breakfast looks amazing. You deserve lots of treats. You are building a baby afterall!

  2. You look awesome, could never have guessed you’ve gained 20 pounds. And it’s TOTALLY fine not to run all the way through pregnancy. You will have the rest of your life to be a super active, fit mama. The way I look at it, you are only pregnant for 9 months—might as well focus on that and focus on feeling good, like you said. I don’t enjoy running pregnant either–aches, pains, shortness of breath, bladder issues, contractions. Not fun for me either. Pregnancy is so temporary and you will be kicking butt on the roads in no time (pushing that BOB?) 😉
