Six months down! Baby boy is the size of a cantaloupe, almost a foot long and weighing in at over a pound. His skin is becoming less transparent and taking on a pinkish glow thanks to the new capillaries that have formed.

I think we had a major growth spirt over the weekend because I have been so wiped out. On Saturday I woke up super early (big surprise) and then proceeded to take not one but two naps throughout the day. On Sunday morning I slept in until 7:40 (!!!), and after a busy day at our nephew’s baptism and bathroom remodel supply shopping, I sat down on the couch to read a book and promptly fell asleep. So in summary, 3 naps this weekend. I love when I have off work both Saturday and Sunday, which doesn’t happen all that often. I like to make the most of it by being as lazy as possible.

I can now see movement from the outside and it seriously cracks me up every time. Seeing my stomach move with all of the little jabs and kicks is hilarious for some reason and I wish I could actually see what the heck he is doing in there.

My sister in law and I attended a baby consignment expo last week and I found a few cute outfits for Mister Man that I couldn’t resist. I am really trying not to buy clothes until we see what we actually need after the shower, hand me downs, etc, but I couldn’t help getting a couple things. The best find was a set of two onesies – one batman and one superman. I am too lazy to go take a picture to show you, but they are pretty rad. I also purchased our first cloth diaper. I am still driving myself crazy with research in that department, but at the expo I was able to spend some time talking to the mom of a four month old who she had been cloth diapering since birth. It was really helpful to talk to a real person about it and find out what her favorites are, even though I know every baby is different.

I got my four workouts in last week, three swims and one walk. I also met with a PT yesterday about my back/butt pain and after re-aligning my pelvic bones, she gave me some core exercises that should help. I will be doing those 3x/week and am hopeful that will do the trick. I have been a complete slacker in the strength/core department, so it will be good to get back on track.

Lastly, I discovered this at the grocery store and I am in love with it:

It’s cherry ginger ale and it’s super spicy and refreshing. I am cracking one open at night on occasion when I might have normally had a beer. Please also note the awesome runner’s wine glass that was gifted to be by a friend. I may not be able to have wine, but I sure as heck am still going to use it. I am also loving virgin bloody mary’s with extra pickles, honey nut cheerios, apples, Cousin’s garden provolone subs, and ice cream (duh). I have been craving an extra gooey fudge brownie with ice cream but so far have been too lazy to make or otherwise procure one. Maybe this week… 🙂

Baby boy is the size of a grapefruit, his face is fully formed, and he is listening to what is going on in the outside world.

I realized when Steve was taking this picture that when I looked down I could no longer see my feet. Ha! I am seriously starting to feel the effects of the extra weight in front in my daily life. I have gained about 20 lbs at this point (maybe a little more by now), and I am finding it takes extra effort to do everything. Get up from a seated/reclined position on the couch? Hard. Putting on shoes? I get a little out of breath. Giving massages? Still doing pretty good there but I have definitely bumped into a few clients on the table with my belly and have to really start thinking about how I am going to do things once I am huge.

I have not run in a couple of weeks now, and while I do miss it, I am surprised by how “ok” I am with not running at the moment. I always pictured myself as one of those pregnant ladies who would happily run all the way to the end and feel good doing it and it would be all puppies and rainbows. People would see me and be all “how does she do it??” Welp, clearly that hasn’t been the case and that’s ok. I may give it another try as it gets nicer outside, but I kind of know that it’s not going to feel good. I have been swimming more and made it to the pool three times last week. Though I’m still not motivated to swim all the time, it actually does feel good while I am doing it so I am going to try to keep it up. I need to get a bigger suit soon though, before everyone at the pool sees a little more of me than they want to.

My back/butt pain has been better, still present but not too bothersome. One of the massage therapists I work with is a former PT, and she determined that the problem is in my SI joint. She did some stretches to try to get it back into place, which worked temporarily. If the problem persists, I may have to give PT or chiropractic a try, but I am hoping it won’t have to come to that.

And the best thing I ate this week:

I used Great Harvest Cinnamon Chip bread to make french toast and then topped it with peanut butter, banana slices, and maple syrup. Oh yes, it was so good that I made it for breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. I also didn’t work out either of those days. Oh well, sometimes a girl’s gotta eat carbs and be lazy.

How about a picture with dad this week? Baby is the size of a papaya (or spaghetti squash depending where you look) and is sleeping 12-14 hours a day in cycles. This post is going to be a little random because I am sick of the update categories and feel like they always sound the same. Eating fruit, not sleeping, etc, etc.

I don’t know if you can tell from this picture, but I feel like I have pretty much doubled in size over the past couple weeks. I’ll have to take a regular profile shot next week to compare. I finally removed my belly piercing (sniff sniff) because it was starting to turn sideways due to my bulging belly button and I didn’t want it to end up that way permanently. I do hope to get it back in some day, but if not, oh well. Can moms wear belly rings or is that just for 16 year olds these days? I can pretty much tell now when the boy is sleeping or awake. (Side note: Steve has taken to calling him “the boy” so I’m just going with it). Interestingly, he always seems to be asleep while I am working giving massages. Maybe it’s the slow movement or the relaxing music that does it. He seems to be the most active at night after dinner when I am sitting on the couch. Last night he was performing acrobatics in there and Steve got to feel his son move for the first time! I think I was more excited than he was, but whatever, it was exciting!

The worst thing that happened last week that continues to plague me is the dreaded sciatic pain. Last Thursday I felt a little twinge on the left side as I was giving massages, but nothing really worth noting. I went for a brisk walk that day and everything was fine. Then on Thursday night when I got up off the couch to go to bed, I got an excruciating zing through my left upper butt area. I could barely walk. I hobbled to bed and spent the entire night in pain. I couldn’t even roll over in bed without practically crying, and didn’t know how I would be able to work the next day. Luckily on Friday, it was feeling a little better. I read that swimming can help, so I went to the pool and that didn’t bother it. Friday night at work I was very careful not to make any sudden movements, and while it didn’t feel good, I was able to get through four massages. Saturday it felt significantly better and I was hopeful that it was just a fluke thing. Sunday morning I did a prenatal yoga video that I found online (which I also read was supposed to help). Well, I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t done yoga in at least a year, but it made things worse. I stood up at work (retail job) all day on Sunday and it wasn’t great. Now it is in a state where it feels like it is just on the verge of major pain, so I am being careful with my movement. I have not ran or walked outside since it started, and swimming seems to be the only thing that doesn’t make it worse. At least I can still do that, but lets face it, swimming every day seems like a huge pain. Going to the pool, getting wet, showering at the gym, ugh. First world problems at their finest. I am getting a massage tomorrow which I hope will help. I am just praying that this isn’t something that is going to bother me until July now, my main concern being able to continue working at my very physical job.

In other news, operation declutter the office has commenced. Our house now looks like a disaster zone, but I have made some progress and even sold some items on Craigslist for a little cash. Cash is good. My goal is to purge the rest of the clutter (either through Craigslist or Goodwill or the dump) by the end of the week so we can reclaim our dining room. I got a new desk and moved my computer space into the dining room alcove to make room for Phillip in the office. So far I am loving my new workspace.

I just need to get some sort of shelf above the desk for storage, and possibly new speakers that do not involve the huge subwoofer on the floor and I will be all set. Progress is being made!

Baby is the size of a pomegranate, and is getting his digestive system ready for the outside world.

Photo thoughts: I feel like I have a cute little bump now 🙂  Lots of people are still commenting that I look small for 21 weeks, or that they couldn’t tell I was pregnant. I think it really just depends on what I am wearing.

Food/cravings: All of the fruit. Seriously. For breakfast all I want is a big bowl of fruit, but I have to remember to also have something along with it or I will be starving again 30 mins later. Still eating all of my other usuals as well: peanut butter, eggs, yogurt, ice cream. Gosh I am so predictable. One thing I have noticed is that I have to watch out that I don’t overeat too much lately or I will end up with some major stomach pain. If I eat a huge meal for dinner I will inevitably regret it the next morning. This has been hard on me and my love of huge portion sizes 😉

Movement: Baby boy is so active in there. I kind of love it. I could feel some thumps from the outside the other night, but Steve hasn’t felt it yet. Funny story: Steve has a sprained thumb from snowboarding in Colorado last week. (Not the funny part). When I felt the thumps from the outside I got really excited and tried to grab Steve’s hand so he could feel it too. Welp, I completely forgot about his bum thumb and grabbed right onto it and yanked. Poor guy was in so much pain. So, he has not felt his son move yet but hopefully he will soon.

Exercise: Four times last week. One run, one walk, one elliptical, and… one time to masters swim! Yes! I have been trying to get to masters for weeks now, but it is Given the fact that I cannot sleep like a normal person, it has been near impossible for me to make it to the 6am practice. Last Friday I was up anyways (on and off since about 3am), so I figured I might as well go. It felt good to get my swim on, even if I had to take a 90 minute nap before noon to make up for it. So I guess I really mixed things up last week which is good, and I plan to keep up with that.

Other stuff: I have been pinteresting like crazy getting ideas for baby boy’s nursery, and I can’t wait to get started. It’s going to be a little while before I can really get into it because we have to do some remodeling/reorganizing of our office in order to make room for Phillip the treadmill who currently resides in the nursery. So far I am thinking of grey/aqua/orange for colors with a contemporary ocean/nautical theme. Even though I don’t have a creative bone in my body when it comes to decorating, I think between me and the other ladies in my family we will come up with something awesome.

We have also started discussing names, but so far haven’t agreed on anything for sure. Just when I think we are narrowing it down, I add a bunch more to the list, so this could be a long process. Although Steve vetoes most of them right off the bat which I guess makes it a little easier 🙂
